By Joseph Pehrson

Patrick Grant, Egizio Panetti and sTRANGEmUSIC present: One-Two-Three-Go! Featuring the Patrick Grant Group in a concert of his own music. Grant, Marija Ilic, Kathleen SupovŽ, MIDI keyboards; John Ferrari, MIDI percussion. Concert #11 at Egizio's Project, New York. March 3, 2002.

Patrick Grant and Egizio Panetti are producing an enterprising series of concerts in Panetti's art gallery. In fact, there are a total of 16 of these afternoon concerts this year. On March 3rd, Patrick featured his own music for a change in a concert of four works. And why call the series 'One-Two-Three-Go!?' Well, Patrick Grant is a totally wired contemporary musician who combines live performance with cutting edge technology, and "One-Two-Three-Go!" is what he calls out to his musicians at the start of every piece to synchronize their playing with the electronic gear! The four works illustrated not only Grant's technical and compositional prowess, but also his enthusiasm for alternate tunings Ð different tunings from the way we usually tune our Western instruments. Two pieces, Fields Amaze, and tHE wEIGHTS oF nUMBERS featured the live performing skills of the ensemble in a traditionally-sounding minimalist framework, and two pieces, Channels: Canals in Winter, and Imaginary Horror Film pointed to new directions in a post-minimal esthetic.
